Benefits of Research for Women

Your participation in research will provide information that may help develop better treatments, medications or devices to help women just like you.

The medical evaluations included in studies (for example: physical examinations, blood and urine tests and vital signs measurements) can be considered beneficial to you by documenting your current health status. You are encouraged to ask the physician and research team if you have questions about the results of your blood or urine tests and other study tests. You can request copies of the results to review with your regular doctor or specialist.

Every study has its own specific risks and benefits that patients may or may not directly experience. The physician and research team will discuss these risks and benefits with you in detail to help you decide if you are a good candidate for participation.

In general, participation in women's research can benefit more than just the study patient. You can:

• Have peace of mind knowing that future generations of the women you love will have more options

• Participate in the discovery of new and innovative methods of treatment that are safer and more effective than current standards of care

• Receive close medical oversight for your condition by board certified physicians and trained research staff

• Possibly improve your quality of life
