Gwen's Interstim Story

CONDITION: interstitial Cystitis

DATE OF INTERSTIM PLACEMENT: 7-21-09

SURGEON/HOSPITAL: Dr. Jason Bennett

THE BIGGEST CONCERNS I HAD ABOUT TREATMENT: Would this wire stay in place and intact with the battery.

WHY I CHOSE INTERSTIM: I took the medicines, physical therapy and diet. It didn’t work, I was getting desperate going to the bathroom every 15 to 20 minutes. Nothing else was working and it couldn’t get any worse so I had nothing to lose.

SURGICAL EXPERIENCE:

MY PAIN AND/OR DISCOMFORT LEVEL: There really was not much pain. No discomfort.

ABOUT MY RECOVERY TIME: In 6 weeks I was back to bowling again and felt great not to have to wear pads or go to the bathroom every 20 minutes

ABOUT MY SURGEON AND/OR FACILITY STAFF:  The facility staff was great and understanding, and the surgeon listened and told me what exactly was going and how he would fix it.

HOW INTERSTIM COMPARED TO PREVIOUS TREATMENTS AND EXPERIENCES:  Diet and pills may work for some people.  But for extreme cases I believe the only way is interstim. Now instead of going every 20 minutes I go 2 to 3 times a day. It’s a wonderful feeling.
